A suspected suicide bomber has reportedly lost his life and injured several others in a a bomb attack on Biu town of Borno State, Sunday.
Media reports indicate that a suspected bomber, wearing explosive vest, stormed a local restaurant in Biu tow n on Sunday, but while attempting to gain entry into the Marvelous Restaurant the explosive devices exploded.
Sources confirmed that the incident occurred at exactly 7:40 pm, when a loud sound was heard in their neighborhood about two kilometers away from Nigeria Army University Biu.
“He was a lonely suicide bomber and he was making an attempt to enter the restaurant before he blew up himself,” a reliable source who identified as Mohammed Idris, confirmed, saying, “unspecified number of persons sustained various degrees of injuries.”
7 Div, Nigerian Army spokesman, Lt Col Ahemusu Jingina, could not be reached immediately for any confirmation, but a reliable security source confirmed that the bomber died instantly.
He said the whole area had been scanned and security agencies put on alert in case of any attempt for more security breaches.
The incident occured less than five hours after Gov Babagana Zulum distributed food palliatives in Biu to 52,500 vulnerable residents of seven LGAs of Southern Borno zone.
ASP Kenneth Nahum Daso, Borno Police Command spokesman, confirmed the incident saying, however, “We have not yet ascertained what the suicide bomber meant for that place or he was on his way to an unknown target; but we are still investigating.”
