The Israeli Prime Minister. Benjamin Netanyahu has been asked to resign because he has lost the trust of the people, the international community, and the security establishment, asserting that he cannot continue as prime minister in the current situation.
The call was made by Yair Lapid, the leader of the opposition in Israel.
It is not the first time Lapid has called for Netanyahu’s resignation, having previously expressed support for a unity government led by the right-wing Likud party if Netanyahu were to be replaced as its leader.
Recall that in November, Lapid emphasized broad support for a unity government under Likud’s leadership. Despite not joining Netanyahu’s war cabinet at the war’s onset, Lapid advocated for a unified response to Hamas, emphasizing the need to stand united and protect the nation. In contrast, other centrist lawmakers, like National Unity’s Benny Gantz, opted to join the Netanyahu administration to contribute to managing the conflict.
As political dynamics continue to evolve, the calls for Netanyahu’s resignation and discussions about potential leadership changes underscore the challenges and divisions within Israel’s political landscape during this critical period.
