As part of efforts to expand broadcasting services and improve access to timely information the Government of Katsina State has handed over a site for the establishment of a new Frequency Modulation, FM, radio station in Funtua Zone.
The handover ceremony took place at the Katsina State Television, KTTV, booster station in Jabiri, Funtua Local Government Area.
The Permanent Secretary, Katsina State Ministry of Information, Alhaji Tukur Hassan Dan Ali, along with the General Manager of Katsina State Television, Malam Abba Zayyan, led the contractor handling the project on an inspection of the designated site.
The team inspected locations earmarked for key components of the station, including the transmitter room, studio complex, master control room, administrative block, staff quarters, water supply facilities and power infrastructure.
The project is designed to strengthen the capacity of the state-owned broadcasting network and improve signal coverage across Funtua and neighbouring communities.
Upon completion, the station is expected to provide a platform for local news, public enlightenment, educational programmes, cultural content, community-based programming and public service announcements.
The contractor assured the state government that the project would be executed in line with approved specifications and delivered within the stipulated contractual period, while observing the required technical and operational standards.
The establishment of the station is also expected to decentralise broadcasting services and enhance communication between the government and people within the Funtua axis.
In a related development, the contractor and representatives of the Katsina State Government paid a courtesy visit to a prominent stakeholder in Funtua Zone, Alhaji Bature Sarkin Alhazai.
During the visit, Alhaji Bature Sarkin Alhazai expressed support for the project, prayed for its successful completion and commended Governor Malam Dikko Umaru Radda for initiating the establishment of the FM station in the zone.
The project forms part of efforts by the Katsina State Government to modernise its information and broadcasting infrastructure and extend government-owned media services beyond the state capital.
