Gov Idris flaggs off 2 road projects in Kebbi, targets economic growth, connectivity

Kebbi State Governor, Comrade Nasir Idris, has flagged off the construction of two major road projects in Birnin Kebbi and Argungu Local Government Areas, reaffirming his administration’s commitment to infrastructure development, economic growth and improved transportation across the state.

The Governor performed the flag-off ceremonies on Sunday, describing the projects as strategic investments that would enhance economic activities, facilitate the movement of people and goods, and improve the livelihoods of residents, particularly farmers and other rural communities.

Governor Idris disclosed that the 2-kilometre Tarasa–Birnin Kebbi road project is expected to be completed within six months, while the 32.7-kilometre Birnin Lafiya–Gulma –Natsini road in  Argungu Local Government Area has a contract duration of one year.

He explained that the projects form part of his administration’s determination to extend the dividends of democracy to both urban and rural communities, stressing that improved road infrastructure remains essential to unlocking the e conomic potential of the state.

The Governor reiterated his commitment to executing development projects that directly address the needs of the people and promote sustainable growth across Kebbi State.

“My administrat ion is committed to the development of both rural and urban areas. We will continue to provide the people with more dividends of democracy through projects and programmes that improve their welfare and create opportunities for economic advancement,” he said.

Governor Idris added that his government would sustain its infrastructure d evelopment drive to ensure that communities across the state benefit from improved connectivity and essential public facilities.

Speaking at the event, the Commissioner for Works, Hon. Engr Umar Farouk Muslim, commended the Governor for approving the projects, noting that their completion would ease transportation, improve access to markets and strengthen economic activities across the benefiting communities.

The Commissioner particularly highlighted the importance of the Birnin Lafiya–Gulma–Natsini road to farmers and rural residents, explaining that improved road access would facilitate the tra nsportation of agricultural produce and reduce difficulties associated with moving goods to markets.

He disclosed that the 32.7-kilometre Birnin Lafiya–Gulma –Natsini road was awarded to ABK Synage Construction Company, with a completion period of 12 months.

He also assured residents that the contractors would be expected to deliver quality work in accordance with the approved specifications and contractual timelines.

The Commissioner urged the benefiting communities to support the smooth execution of the projects, expressing confidence that the roads would contribute significantly to improved transportation and economic development upon completion.

He reaffirmed the Ministry of Works’ commitment to monitoring the projects to ensure that the required standards are maintained and that the roads are delivered within the stipul ated periods.
