The increase in Katsina State Internally Generated Revenue to over 3 .6 billion is a reflection of the government’s efforts to strengthen revenue generation and improve public financial management.

This was disclosed by Alhaji Bello Kagara, the Katsina State Commissioners for Finance Friday at a briefing for supervisors and field officers participating in the state’s first Financial Management Monitoring and Evaluation (FMM) exercise in Katsina

The monitoring exercise was designed to assess funding arrangements, expenditure processes and financial management strategies across Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs).

He said the initiative would help the government identify achievements, implementation gaps and challenges affecting public service delivery.

According to him, the findings will guide improvements in financial management procedures, strengthen compliance with fiscal policies and enhance the efficiency of public spending.

The commissioner appreciated Gov. Dikko Radda for investing state resources in infrastructure, education, healthcare, agriculture and other critical sectors.

He cited road construction and rehabilitation projects in Funtua, Batsari, Malumfashi and Mashi, alongside housing development and construction of facilities in primary and tertiary institutions.

The commissioner added that the administration had supported agriculture through interventions aimed at improving farming activities and boosting food production.

On security, he acknowledged persistent challenges but said improved security had helped restore economic activities in several communities, identifying the reopening of markets and farmers’ return to their farmlands as positive developments requiring sustained government support through effective resource management.

Kagara said the exercise would establish whether funds allocated to different sectors were producing expected results and identify obstacles hindering essential service delivery.

He urged participants to understand the questionnaires and guide officials of the respective MDAs in providing accurate information.

The commissioner stressed that field officers should explain the questions to respondents rather than complete the forms on their behalf.

He said reliable data were essential to achieving the exercise’s objectives and improving revenue generation, expenditure management, payment processes and public service delivery.

Kagara expressed optimism that the exercise would provide evidence to strengthen the state’s financial management system and ensure public funds translated into tangible benefits for residents.
