Kebbi State Government has donated ₦100 million to victims of recent bandit attacks in Danko Wasagu Local Government Area, reaffirming its commitment to strengthening security, supporting affected families and ensuring the safe return of displaced residents to their ancestral homes.

This was announced by Kebbi State Governir,  Comrade Nasir Idris, Kauran Gwandu on Friday during a sympathy visit to the Wasagu Chiefdom, where he commiserated with the traditional institution and the people over the recent attacks.

Governor Idris assured the affected residents that his administration would continue to intensify efforts to address the security challenges confronting the area, while providing support to victims and working towards the restoration of peace and normalcy.

He emphasised that his visit was motivated by genuine concern for the welfare of the people and not political considerations, describing Wasagu as a community that occupies an important place in his administration’s priorities.

“We are not here for politics; we are here to sympathise with you over the recent bandit attacks. Wasagu is one of the places this government holds very dear to its heart.

“No state in Nigeria is 100 per cent free from one challenge or another. However, government is doing everything possible to protect its people and address the security situation,” the Governor said.

Ahmed Idris, Chief Press Secretary to the Governor said in statement said in statement that Governor Idris urged residents to remain hopeful and united, while calling for intensified prayers for divine intervention to overcome the security challenges facing the state and the country.

“We must change our attitude, humble ourselves and seek divine intervention. In-Sha-Allah, Allah will listen to our prayers and accept our supplications,” he said.

The Governor also stressed the importance of peace, tolerance and peaceful coexistence, noting that sustainable development could only thrive in an atmosphere of harmony and mutual understanding.

He urged residents to remain their brothers’ and sisters’ keepers, cautioning political supporters against violence, intimidation and the destruction of campaign posters or billboards belonging to others.

“We do not encourage our supporters to fight anybody, and you should not tamper with anybody’s posters or billboards. We must learn to live peacefully with one another, regardless of our political differences,” he added.

The Governor’s message underscored the need for communities to reject violence and division while working collectively towards peace, security and development.

Commissioner Calls for Stronger Security Presence

In his remarks, the Commissioner for Home Affairs and Internal Security, Hon. Haliru Aliyu Wasagu, commended Governor Idris for his efforts to address insecurity and support communities affected by attacks.

He disclosed that the Governor had been pushing for the deployment of additional military formations to the area as part of broader efforts to strengthen security operations and protect vulnerable communities.

The Commissioner also questioned the record of former Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami, SAN, on efforts to address insecurity during his tenure in the Federal Government.

He argued that Malami’s influential position in the administration of former President Muhammadu Buhari presented an opportunity to contribute more significantly to addressing the security challenges affecting his home state and supporting communities impacted by attacks.

“The question is: what did he do to address insecurity during his time in office? Whenever bandits attacked a community, what steps did he take to support the victims and cushion the effects of those attacks?” the Commissioner asked.

His remarks placed renewed emphasis on the importance of public accountability and the responsibility of political officeholders to use their positions to advance the safety and welfare of citizens.

Speaking on behalf of the traditional institution and the people of the area, the Chief of Wasagu, Alhaji Mukhtar Adamu, expressed appreciation to Governor Idris for his continued support for Danko Wasagu Local Government Area.

He commended the Governor for visiting the affected community and demonstrating concern for the plight of residents, particularly at a time when many families were facing the consequences of insecurity and displacement.

The traditional ruler assured the Governor of the community’s continued prayers for the success of his administration, expressing confidence that lasting peace would return to the area.

“We have nothing to offer you other than to continue praying for the success of your administration. We are with you, and, In-Sha-Allah, we will reciprocate your support,” he said.

The ₦100 million donation and the Governor’s renewed assurances of support come amid calls for sustained security operations, assistance for displaced families and practical measures to enable affected residents to return home safely.
