Kebbi State Governor, Comrade Nasir Idris, has appealed to individuals, religious leaders and other stakeholders to return to their communities and continue praying for an end to insurgency and insecurity in Kebbi State and Nigeria.
The Governor made the appeal on Thursday while addressing internally displaced persons (IDPs) at Diri Daji in Sakaba Local Government Area of Kebbi State, during a sympathy visit to communities affected by recent attacks.
Governor Idris sympathised with the victims and families of those who lost their lives in the attacks on some communities in Sakaba, describing the incidents as barbaric and unacceptable.
He assured the displaced persons that his administration remains committed to protecting the lives and property of citizens, stressing that the government is working closely with security agencies to restore peace and create the conditions necessary for the affected communities to safely return to their homes.
“I wish to express my dismay over the unfortunate incident that happened. I have requested for the deployment of more security personnel who will confront and bring an end to this menace,” the Governor said.
He also condemned the killing of innocent citizens and urged the people to remain united and peaceful, warning them against allowing themselves to be used for political purposes at a time when collective efforts are required to address the security situation.
He called on the people to support lawful measures being taken by the government and security agencies to restore peace and stability across the affected areas.
Earlier, the Speaker of the Kebbi State House of Assembly, commended Governor Idris for visiting the affected communities and identifying with the victims at a difficult moment.
The Speaker urged the people to remain peaceful and vigilant against misinformation on security matters, assuring them of the continued commitment of the State House of Assembly to supporting the administration in its efforts to strengthen security and promote good governance.
Also speaking, the Emir of Zuru, His Royal Highness, Alhaji Mikhail Gomo III, thanked Governor Idris for his concern, compassion and continued support to the people of Zuru Emirate.
The Emir assured the Governor of the continued support and cooperation of the traditional institution and people of the emirate, noting that the Governor’s visit demonstrated his concern for the victims and affected communities.
“The people of Zuru Emirate are with you, and we will continue to support your administration. You have done a lot for us, and we pray that Allah continues to guide you. You are here to sympathise with the affected people, and you have also supported them with food items and cash,” the Emir said.
