Thousands of members of the Action Democratic Congress (ADC) Legacy Group, including the party’s House of Representatives candidate and two State House of Assembly candidates, have defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kebbi State.
The defectors were formally received into the APC on Wednesday at the Government House, Birnin Kebbi, by the Kebbi State Governor, Comrade Nasir Idris, Kauran Gwandu.
Receiving the defectors, Governor Idris thanked them for choosing to join the APC, describing their decision as a demonstration of confidence in the direction of his administration and the leadership of the party in the state.
A statement by Ahmed Idris,
Chief Press Secretary to the Kebbi State Governor said Gov Idris assured the new members of equal treatment, inclusion and opportunities to contribute to the affairs and development of the party, stressing that leadership is ultimately a trust and destiny determined by Almighty Allah.
“My governorship position is a destiny from almighty Allah, not merely the product of individual willingness. I am deeply grateful to Almighty Allah, who created us and gave us the opportunity to reach this level of responsibility,” the Governor said.
He further reiterated his administration’s commitment to strengthening governance at the grassroots and delivering on its campaign promises, noting that his government had continued to implement programmes directly impacting the lives of citizens across the state.
He listed support to farmers through free fertilisers and other agricultural inputs, payment of students’ scholarships, construction and renovation of schools and healthcare facilities, among other interventions.
The Governor assured the defectors that the APC remained a broad-based political platform where every committed member would have a sense of belonging and an opportunity to contribute to the party’s progress.
Also speaking, the Kebbi State APC Chairman, Alhaji Kana-Zuru, welcomed the defectors, describing their decision as a significant addition to the party and a boost to the political strength of the APC in the state.
He urged them to remain patient, loyal and committed to the constitution and principles of the party, assuring them that their contributions would be recognised.
“I urge all of you to be patient and remain loyal to the party constitution. Insha Allah, you will all be carried along and treated equally,” he said.
The Special Adviser to the Governor on Political Affairs and Power, Alhaji Kabir Sani-Giant, also welcomed the new members and urged them to remain God-fearing, disciplined and committed to the ideals of the APC.
Similarly, the former Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Disaster Management and APC House of Representatives candidate, Dr. Tanko Sununu, commended the defectors for their decision, assuring them of the party’s support, trust and equal treatment.
Speaking on behalf of the defectors, the leader of the ADC Legacy Group, Bala Maga Zuru, said their decision to join the APC was driven by the development strides recorded under Governor Nasir Idris.
He said the group had carefully followed the policies and programmes of the administration and was convinced that the state was witnessing meaningful progress under the present government.
“You have developed Kebbi State to greater heights. We have fully identified with your policies and programmes, and we have decided to join you in advancing the development of our state,” he said.
The development further underscores the growing political realignment in Kebbi State as more opposition members and political stakeholders identify with the development agenda and leadership of Governor Nasir Idris.
