Irked by the decimal performance of Katsina State’s students in the 2024 National Examination Council, NECO the government has announced plans to conduct competency tests for all principals and vice principals of secondary schools in the state.
The test is targeted at guiding the government in reappointments and in ensuring a merit-based measure to school leadership, promoting dedicated and sound leadership in schools.
Commissioner of Basic and Secondary Education in the state, Zainab Musawa, disclosed this in Katsina while briefing newsmen on the state’s performance in the 2024 National Examination Council (NECO) exams.
Musawa explained that the ministry also plans to reintroduce mandatory prep classes for all final-year students with special coaching in Mathematics and English language .
But Musawa praise the performance of students in the NECO saying the state ranked sixth in the number of students who passed the exam with five credits and above, including Mathematics and English, which she described as achievement and remarkable academic display by the students, saying it indicates success made in transforming the education sector, providing instructional materials, facilities, and employment of over 7,000 teachers since the inception of the current administration in the state
