Police arrests 88 suspects in Katsina

The Katsina State Police Command has arrested 88 individuals who it believed are involved in 59 significant crimes that occurred in the state during the month of February.

A statement by ASP Abubakar Sadiq-Aliyu, the spokesperson for the command said those arrested were accused of participating in various criminal activities such as armed robbery, kidnapping, stealing of livestocks, and causing death by negligence, among other offenses.

The statement further said the police had presented 49 cases against some of the arrested individuals in court.

Sadiq-Aliyu clarified that a total of 13 individuals were taken into custody for committing armed robbery, 12 for the crime of murder, 19 for rape, and three for kidnapping. The remaining suspects were apprehended for various other criminal offenses.

Additionally, he mentioned that the joint efforts of the Katsina and FCT commands led to the arrest of the three individuals suspected of kidnapping.

The spokesperson for the command identified the individuals as Hassan Ibrahim, aged 25, Ibrahim Ishaq, aged 33, and Shafi’u Zubairu, aged 30, all from Kakabawa village in the Kurfi Local Government Area of the state.

According to the spokesperson, the suspects admitted to terrorizing communities in the Kurfi and Safana Local Government Areas during questioning.

Additionally, the suspects revealed the names of three other infamous bandits they had been collaborating with, who are currently on the run.

Sadiq-Aliyu also mentioned that a man named Bilyaminu Muhammad, aged 32 and from Zago village in Arewa LGA of Kebbi, was apprehended for unlawfully having seven live cartridges.

Additionally, a significant number of 72 individuals who had been kidnapped were rescued throughout the state in February, and 500 stolen livestock were successfully retrieved.
