Kano plans 1, 800 housing units

The Government of Kano State under Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf has planned to construct 50 housing units in 36 rural local governments numbering 1, 800 houses and provided with basic infrastructure such as accessible roads, clinic, schools, mosque, market and police station.

This was revealed by the Commissioner of Housing Development, Arc. Ibrahim Yakubu Adamu when he received the Project Manager, UN-Habitat Nigeria, Mr. Fernando Murillo who paid him a courtesy visit in his office, saying Kano State Government shares certain policies regarding societal settlement

 He expressed the redness of Kano State Government to collaborate with the United Nations Human Settlement Programme UN-HABITAT to boost socio-economic potentials of the state.

Arc. Adamu further revealed that Kano is at the barge of producing new master plan for the state which will lay the foundation of transformation of the socio-economic life of the people of the state which is in line with the objectives of the UN-Habitat.

He stated that Kano is the safest state in this part of the country and the situation makes people troop into the state thereby over stretching the existing infrastructure, saying that there would be no economic viability if infrastructures are not in good shape.

“You come with a good idea and we’ll give you all the necessary support to achieve the desired objectives. His Excellency Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf is always willing to partner with organisation that is bringing development to the State.” The Commissioner stressed.

Earlier, the Project Manager UN-Habitat Nigeria, Mr. Fernando Murillo, informed the Commissioner that they were in the state to identify areas of collaboration with the state government for socio-economic development of Kano people.

Mr. Murillo stated that UN-Habitat is working in 3 states, Adamawa, Benue and Taraba where there are internally displaced persons camps and the organisation is considering building IDP housing or low cost model housing. He added that Kano does not have IDP camp therefore UN-Habitat is identifying area of intervention to strengthen the socio-economic potentials of the people of the state.

He opined that UN-Habitat has special strategic plans for Kano being the most populous state, noting that in the Kano – Agadaz corridor Project many key intervention areas have been identified in the local governments involved.
