Gov Radda offers N1million to best graduands, brand new car for overall best student

Governor Dikko Umaru Radda has approved a ₦100,000 cash award for the best graduating students promised automatic Jobs for Best Graduating Students of Umaru Musa ‘Yar’ adua University, Katsina, UMYUK

The governor also gpproved Staff Salary Increment when (UMYU) honoured him with an honourary doctorate degree in Public Administration at its14th convocation ceremony

Responding to the honour, Governor Radda described the recognition as a call to greater service and reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to strengthening the state-owned university, which he hailed as a centre of learning, character, and service.

Governor Radda congratulated the graduating students and expressed pride in the university’s pivotal role in human capital development in Katsina State.

“I accept this honour with humility and a renewed sense of responsibility to serve the people of Katsina State with dedication and integrity,” he said.

He urged the graduands to lead with integrity, innovate with purpose, and serve society selflessly.

“Be ambassadors of this university and of Katsina State. Use your knowledge to solve problems, uplift communities, and make a positive difference wherever you find yourselves,” Governor Radda added.

He declared that the overall best graduating students will receive automatic employment after completing their National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), directing the Head of Service to identify and process the beneficiaries.

“This is to reward excellence and encourage our students to strive for the highest standards in their academic pursuits,” he said.

He disclosed that funds have been released for programme accreditation to meet both national and international standards and announced a salary increase for academic and non-academic staff, describing the move as a gesture of appreciation for their dedication.

“Our government will continue to support UMYU to achieve excellence, discipline, and service to humanity,” he affirmed.

Earlier, the Chancellor of the University, Sen. Ibrahim M. Ida (Wazirin Katsina), described the convocation as a day of joy, celebrating the graduands’ hardwork and the support of their families.

He praised the university’s progress in expanding programmes, enhancing research, and strengthening community engagement.

Also, the Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the Governing Council, Senator Hadi Abubakar Sirika, expressed gratitude to Governor Radda for his leadership and reaffirmed the Council’s commitment to expanding access to education, enhancing research, and rebranding the university for global competitiveness.

In the same vein, Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Shehu Salihu Muhammad, highlighted UMYU’s growth from about 1,000 to over 20,000 students, with 117 undergraduate and postgraduate programmes now offered.

He praised uninterrupted academic activities, strong governance, robust research collaborations, and full accreditation of all programmes.

Prof. Muhammad congratulated the 2,682 graduands, including 31 First Class graduates, and commended Governor Radda for prompt staff salary payments and continued support.

Ambassador Ahmed Rufa’i, speaking on behalf of all recipients, thanked the university and urged the graduands to serve society with honesty, dedication, and integrity.

The Honorary doctorates were awarded to Ambassador Ahmed Rufa’i Abubakar himself, Ambassador Ali bin Ghanem Al-Hijri, the late President Muhammadu Buhari, and Governor Dikko Umaru Radda.

Goodwill messages were delivered by the Vice-Chancellors, Rectors, and Provosts of all Katsina State tertiary institutions and the representatives from Niger republic institutions.

The convocation was attended by Deputy Governor Malam Faruk Lawal; Speaker of the State Assembly, Hon. Nasir Yahaya Daura; Secretary to the State Government, Abdullahi Garba Faskari; Head of Civil Service, Alhaji Falalu Bawale; Senator Muntari Abubakar (Funtua Zone); Chief of Staff to the Governor, Abdulkadir Mamman Nasir; Principal Private Secretary, Hon. Abdullahi Aliyu Turaji; Amb Lawal Kazaure; former Presidential Spokesperson, Garba Shehu; Chief Judge of Katsina, Justice Musa Danladi; members of the State Executive Council; service chiefs; traditional rulers; and business leaders.
