2027: Kwankwaso wants to replace Kashim Shettima

Amid political horsetrading, alignments and realignment to the build up to the 2027 presidential elections, the leader of the Kwankwasiyya movement and presidential candidate of New Nigeria Peoples Party, NNPP, Sen Rabi’u Musa Kwankwaso has laid a condition for him to join any coalition or defect to any political party.

Kwankwaso said that although they are looking for a party to merge with ahead of the 2027 general election, such a party must be willing to surrender its presidential or vice-presidential ticket to him.

Addressing his supporters on Saturday, Kwankwaso said that he would only join a party willing to hand him the presidential or vice-presidential ticket.
“We are looking for a party, but they must agree to give me, Rabiu Kwankwaso, a presidential or vice-presidential ticket,” he said in Kano.

There is speculation that the former Minister of Defence is currently under pressure to join the African Democratic Congress, ADC and the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC.

Recall that there are moves to receive the Governor of Kano State, Eng Abba Kabir Yusuf, the lone NNPP Governor, into the APC and frantic efforts are being made to ensure the Kwankwaso comes along with him.

If the APC accepts his condition, President Tinubu will replace Vice President Kashim Shettima against the 2027 presidential contest.

The ADC on the other hand already has the likes of former Vice President Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, former presidential candidate of the Labour Party, Peter Obi, and former Minister of Transportation Chibuike Amaechi, among others, who have declared interest in running for the presidency.

If Kwankwaso’s condition is accepted by the ADC, could Atiku jettison his ambition, allow Kwankwaso to run, oris Kwankwaso likely to pair with Amaechi or Peter Obi to deny President Bola Tinubu another term?
