The Katsina State Executive Council has approved comprehensive electricity market policy aimed at tackling energy poverty across the state.
The approval was made during its meeting chaired by Governor Malam Dikko Umaru Radda yesterday night at the Government House.
Addressing journalists today, Special Assistant to the Governor on Power and Energy, Hon. Hafiz Ahmed, described the approval as “a major milestone” that will transform access to electricity in both underserved and unserved communities.
A statement issued by Ibrahim Kaula Mohammed, Chief Press Secretary to Governor Radda Wednesday said “This policy is designed as a strategic roadmap to tackle the challenge of energy poverty across the state,” Hon. Ahmed stated.
“We engaged a wide range of stakeholders from the private sector, academia, civil society organizations, and financial institutions. The result is a well-thought-out framework that sets the stage for meaningful public-private partnerships and encourages investors to come into the state,” Hon. Ahmed stated.
The policy provides clear analysis of current power generation, transmission, and distribution infrastructure while outlining practical steps to improve electricity access across all sectors.
“It cuts across all major sectors—agriculture, healthcare, education, transportation, and small and medium-sized enterprises. The goal is to deliver reliable, sustainable, cost-effective, and environmentally friendly energy solutions that will, in turn, boost socio-economic activities and transform livelihoods across Katsina,” Ahmed emphasized.
The electricity policy, which was specifically initiated by Governor Radda, is expected to create an enabling environment for investment in the power sector while addressing the critical energy needs of communities across the state.
In the sports sector, Commissioner for Youth and Sports, Hon. Aliyu Lawal Zakari, announced the Council’s approval of Phase 2 of the Charanchi Township Stadium project, which includes construction of a standard football pitch, main pavilion, stadium building, and comprehensive drainage system.
“Approval has been granted for the full execution of these components, and the contractor has been given a four-month timeline to complete the work,” Commissioner Zakari confirmed.
The Commissioner highlighted that these approvals reflect Governor Radda’s commitment to both infrastructure development and quality of life improvements for Katsina residents.
