The Kebbi State Independent Election Commission, KIESEC has lambasted the Peoples Democratic Party’s (PDP) for withdrawing from the local government election scheduled to hold on the 31 of August this year.
While addressing journalists at the Commission ‘s headquarters in Birnin Kebbi metropolis on Thursday, the electoral agency’s Commissioner 4, in charge of publicity, Muhammed Kaura Danhakimi also debunked the allegations by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) that the KIESEC Chairman is a card carrying member of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state.
Danhakimi further said the chairman and other members of the Commission have been conducting the local government elections in the state since 2007, 2009 and they are not card carrying members of the ruling party.
It would be recalled that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) on Wednesday announced it’s withdrawal from the Kebbi State Local Government Election which on some social media not on national dailies on the ground that the electoral agency’s chairman is a card carrying member of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state.
The commissioner however insisted that “There is no truth in their allegations saying “We assured that whoever emerges winner in the election will be declared and we have resolved to remain non partisan in the election and we assured all the participants that we will conduct free and fair elections”.
He added that to conduct a free and fair local government elections in the state, KIESEC will recruit and train adhoc staff for the 3,743 polling units where elections are expected to be held.
