There are reports that the nationwide protest that turned violent in some states has claimed at least 17 lives across various states, including Abuja, Kano, Niger, Borno, Kaduna, and Jigawa.

The protest, which began peacefully, escalated into violent confrontations between security forces and protesters, leading to the loss of lives and property.

One person was reported shot and killed in Abuja  while others were injured. The police also fired teargas canisters to disperse protesters at the Eagles Square, near the Presidential Villa.

Similar incidents occurred in other states, with reports of looting, vandalism, and clashes between protesters and security forces.

The Federal Government has appealed for calm and dialogue, with the FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, calling for protesters to “sit down” with the government to iron out issues.

The protest organizers have vowed to continue the demonstration until their demands are met, including the reversal of petrol pump price to N100/litre, an end to insecurity, and electoral reform.

The situation remains tense, with many businesses, banks, and markets shut down due to the unrest
