BUK promotes 38 to professors, 51 Associate professors

The Appointment and Promotions Committee of the  Bayero University, Kano (BUK) has approved the promotion of 38 senior academics to the rank of professors and 51 associate professors.

The approval was given at its 192nd meeting held on Wednesday, 20th September 2023, according to a statement signed by the acting registrar, Amina Umar Abdullahi.

Amongst the new professors are Dr. Gausu Ahmad, a veteran journalist and former editor of New Nigerian Newspapers. Additionally, the Head Department of Mass Communication, Dr. Mainasara Yakubu Kurfi, and Dr. Mannir Abdullahi Kamba were promoted to professors of Media Studies, Mass Communication, and Library and Information Sciences respectively.

Other academic staff promoted include Dr Hajara Umar Sanda as Professor of Media Studies, Dr Maikano Madaki as Professor of Sociology and Criminology, Dr. Abbas Ja’afar Badakaya as Professor of Mathematics, and Dr. Aminu Mohammed Dukku as Professor of Sociology and Criminology.

The promotions were for the 2020, 2021, and 2022 sessions. The Vice Chancellor of the university, Prof. Sagir Adamu Abbas, chaired the Appointment and Promotions Committee, which carried out the exercise. The committee comprises senior academics who evaluated the qualifications and contributions of the academic staff before recommending them for promotion.

These promotions reflect the academic excellence of the University, as senior academics who have made significant contributions to their fields have been recognized. The university administration has also expressed its pride in the academic achievements of the promoted staff members and commended their hardwork and dedication to their fields
