PBAT: Diplomacy; better option to resolve Niger crisis

By Dr Magaji Dansarai

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu should by now know that he is alone in this poorly and hastily conceived adventure of waging a war against Niger Republic just in order to rescue democracy.

There is a national consensus that better options of diplomacy and consultation were not only ignored but completely disregarded for the more costly adventure war, intimidation and threats. The implications of this impulsive rush to promote democracy at the expense of peace and long standing relationship of trust, dependability, mutuality and honour  have been brought to the fore by many analysts for the servants of democracy is fully understand.

Tinubu should by now know that he can not handle complex international issues like the clearance of refuse in Lagos State. Mr. President should please sit down and make a good homework or the damages he has caused Nigeria to suffer as the result of his unguarded utterances and blind confidence in democracy. Swift damage control measures should be taken to restore the relationship, to rebuild trust, to demonstrate respect and humility, to show tolerance, emphathy and understanding.

This is because, hitherto  Nigeria’s approach was unbecoming and contemptuous.
