By Lawal Gwanda: Former Katsina State governor, Barrister Ibrahim Shehu Shema, has threatened to exit the PDP within 48 hours if the party fail to rescind its suspension on him.
He similarly asked the National Working Committee of the PDP to disband what he regarded as “illegal caretaker committee” of the party in Katsina state and recognise the “duly elected” executive committee of the party.
In a letter he signed, dated March 24, 2023 addressed to the National Chairman of the party, Iyorchia Ayu and copied to the National Legal Adviser of the PDP, Shema said failure to rescind the decisions on the two issues he raised, the letter should serve as his formal and official withdrawal of membership from the PDP effective from Saturday, March 25, 2023.
“I cannot therefore continue to remain in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) under Dr. Iyorchia Ayu’s laws who is duty bound to preserve, protect and defend our constitution within his limited powers.
It is in the height of these developments that the former governor made the following appeals: that the National Working Committee of PDP rescind its decision of unlawful dissolution of Katsina State duly elected Executive Committee and allow them to complete their tenure, disband the purported caretaker committee similar to which so many court decisions in the land have illegalised, and rescind the decision of his suspension as a member of the party within the next Forty-Eight (48) hours.
He warned the NCW of the party that failure to effect these two changes above within Forty-Eight (48) hours, the letter serves as the formal and official withdrawal of his membership from the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) effective from Saturday 25 March 2023,” the letter read in part.
It would be recall that the PDP had referred Governor Samuel Ortom of Benue state to the Party’s Disciplinary Committee, suspended Shema, Fayose, and Anyim Paius Anyim among others.
