By Mallam AbdulRahman Sani: If you are indeed a patriot and lover of peace you must not cast your vote, even when it’s your right to choose, any presidential candidate of Northern extraction come Saturday.
There is no disputing the fact that Muhammadu Buhari is president today. He was chosen by Southerners and Northerners in almost equal measure. By May 29th 2023 he must have completed his eight year tenure.
Equity and justice dictate this time around a southerner succeeds him in keeping with the constitutional arrangement that leadership of this country rotates between the two cultural blocs.
It is not out of fear but sense of duty to the fatherland for the nation to live in peace and harmony as we preserve its corporate existence.
Electing to cast your votes to a fellow Northerner could mean without doubt an invitation to chaos.
IPOB with its unknown gunmen, Yoruba Nesan with its belligerent followers as well as Niger Delta militants will most definitely launch afresh a new phase in their agitations for self determination.
A so called self determination which is often accompanied by violence and destruction of lives and property especially of our youths who travel to the south for trading, artisanship or livestock trading.
As was the case in near past, they will lose their lives in the most gruesome manner including being roasted alive along with their merchandise.
It has happened before, and I can assure you it will happen again without let or hindrance, and with devastating effects. They will surely be the ones and only victims.
We can’t easily forget the tag hoisted on Northerners, be him a Muslim or Christian, of being a Fulani herdsman and a terrorist via a deregatory ethnic and religious profiling.
Northerner Buhari is currently occupying Aso Rock. It will therefore be wrong for any Northerner to succeed him.
We are Arewa. We are just and equitable, and believe in justice to every component in Nigeria.
