Security operatives in Kaduna State

have destroyed some weapons that were recovered from criminals in various operations in the country.

Reports say over 3,000 assorted small arms, that were recovered across the country were destroyed at the Nigerian Army Command Engineering Depot, which is in Rigachukun, Kaduna State, yesterday.

The process was carried out by the National Centre for Control of Small Arms and Light Weapons, that is headed by Major General Abba Mohammed Dikko (retd).

The National Security Adviser, Major General Babagana Monguno (retd.) was reported saying that retrieving and destroying small arms and light weapons, were the surest way to sustainable peace in Nigeria.

Insecurity of lives and properties has become one of the great challenges Nigeria has been facing in the last decade. Thousands of innocent lives have been lost, many maimed and injured, millions displaced and devasted and properties worth billions of naira destroyed.

The destruction has become pervasive and cut across all parts of Nigeria and carried out by several criminal gangs such as Boko Haram and ISWAP in the North East, cattle rustling, kidnaping and banditry in the North West and the menace of unknown gunmen in Southern Nigeria.

The destruction of the weapons is one sure way of stopping their return to the members of the.criminal gangs.
