The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has suffered a fresh resignation following the departure of its National Assistant Secretary, Hassan Muhammadu, as political activities intensify ahead of the 2027 general elections,
Muhammadu, who also served as the North-East Zonal Secretary of the party, announced his resignation in a letter dated September 9, 2026, addressed to the ADC chairman in Bojude Ward, Kwami Local Government Area of Gombe State.
A copy of the letter was made available to journalists on Sunday.
In the letter, Muhammadu stated that he had decided to immediately relinquish his membership of the ADC as well as all positions he occupied within the party.
He said the decision followed “deep reflection,” while expressing appreciation to the ADC and its leadership for giving him the opportunity to serve at both the national and zonal levels.
Muhammadu wrote that he was withdrawing his membership and stepping down as National Assistant Secretary and Secretary of the North-East Zonal Working Committee.
He also disclosed that copies of his resignation letter had been sent to the party’s National Chairman, Senator David Mark, through the North-East Zonal Chairman, Daniel Modu Bwala.
The Gombe State leadership, the party leader in the state and other relevant officials were also copied.
Muhammadu is a former Commissioner for Finance and Economic Development in Gombe State.
Political sources said the former ADC chieftain is expected to join the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), where he would support the party’s governorship candidate, Dr Jamilu Isiyaku Gwamna.
Sources close to Gwamna’s campaign, Muhammadu’s anticipated defection could strengthen the APC’s political machinery in Kwami Local Government and other parts of Gombe Central.
They described his political experience and previous positions at national and zonal levels as assets that could prove valuable to the APC during the 2027 elections.
