The leader of the Kwankwasiyya Movement and Vice Presidential candidate of the National Democratic Congress, NDC in the 2027 election, Sent Rabi’u Musa Kwankwaso is set to reconcile with Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf of Kano State.

Sen Kwankwaso revealed. that he still holds affection for Yusuf and would readily accept him back if he chose to return to the political fold of the Kwankwasiyya Movement.

He made the revelation in an interview with the BBC, saying Yusuf’s departure from the movement did not erase their longstanding relationship, noting that political conflicts are not unusual and can be resolved through dialogue and forgiveness.

Kwankwaso pointed to his past political experiences, including his relationship with former Kano governor Abdullahi Ganduje, saying they had disagreements on several occasions but were able to settle their differences and work together again.

The former governor blamed the current rift on Yusuf’s decision to leave the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) and align with the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), a move that generated criticism among loyalists of the Kwankwasiyya movement.

He maintained that Yusuf’s emergence as governor in 2023 was made possible by the support and influence of the movement, insisting that its popularity in Kano was strong enough to secure victory at the polls.

Kwankwaso also disclosed that Yusuf was deliberately selected as the movement’s governorship candidate to showcase the strength of its political structure, rather than because of seniority or other personal attributes.

He emphased the importance of tolerance in leadership, saying successful leaders must accommodate differing opinions and embrace forgiveness, adding that political progress is difficult to achieve without an open mind and a willingness to reconcile.

He concluded by stressing that forgiveness has remained one of the key principles that have sustained his political journey over the years.
