Ahead of the 2027 general elections, the national leadership of the Social Democratic Party, SDP has issued fresh directives to its state executives and rallying members to intensify grassroots mobilisation.
This was announced on Saturday during a strategic meeting in Kaduna aimed at strengthening the party’s structures
During the visit to the Kaduna State SDP Secretariat, the party’s 2023 presidential candidate, Prince Adewale Adebayo, tasked State Chairman Alhaji Adamu Idris with securing a new and befitting office for the party within seven days urging the state leadership to deepen its presence at the grassroots and avoid what he described as “Abuja politics.”
“You must go to the nooks and crannies where the people are and tell them there is hope,” Adebayo said, emphasizing the party’s commitment to reconnecting with citizens across the state.
Also speaking, the SDP National Secretary on Labour, CSOs and NGOs, Rosemary Asuquo Effiong, called for an aggressive membership drive to position the party for electoral success.
She reminded members of the state chapter’s pledge to deliver 2.5 million votes and insisted this could only be achieved by expanding the party’s network.
“Tell people about the good things the SDP will bring. We will implement policies that touch lives and reflect a human face,” Effiong said, urging unity and discipline among members.
She cautioned against internal disputes and rumours, noting that “division starts from sidetalks” and encouraging members to support weaker colleagues so the party moves forward as a team.
State Chairman Idris used the meeting to recount how the party resisted an attempt by a former governor to seize control of the SDP pKaduna structure.
He said the chapter had been misled into vacating its former office on the promise of a better facility, which never materialized.
“We later discovered that the mission was not to help but to hijack the party,” Idris said. “Their coming to the SDP would have been like cancer to our system. We stopped it with the support of our national leaders.”
He expressed gratitude to Adebayo for consistently backing the party in the state and reaffirmed that ward and local government structures remain intact.
National Financial Secretary, Alhaji Ado Bello, commended the Kaduna chapter for its strong performance in a recent by-election, where the SDP outperformed the ruling APC in Zaria.
He argued that Nigeria’s major problems — insecurity, unemployment and inequality — stem from poor management, not lack of resources.
“What worsens insecurity is hunger, unemployment and injustice. Nigeria is rich; what we lack is ideas,” he said, describing Adebayo as “a man of wisdom” capable of steering economic solutions.”
Addressing members, the 2023 presidential candidate of SDP Prince Adewale Adebayo said the Party’s mission was centred on national development rather than political gamesmanship.
He urged Nigerians to unite across ethnic and religious lines, saying hardship affects all citizens equally.
He accused the current administration of ignoring citizens’ concerns until foreign voices intervene and stressed that meaningful change will come only through collective effort and political participation.
“The SDP is not just doing politics. We are here to rescue the nation,” he said
