Elected local councils Chairmen in Katsina State are planned to be sworn in Monday the 14th of April, 2025.
This followed the election of the new LGA Chairmen across the 34 LGAs of the state which was conducted by the State Independent Electoral Commission ( SIEC ) in February 2025 in which candidates of the All Progressives Congress, APC won all the 34 local councils Chairmen and Councillorship seats.
Out of the 34 elected local councils Chairmen, only 12 were opportune to be re-elected for the second tenure, while 22 came on board for the first time indicating that 22 could not scale through for the second tenure.
However, out of the 12 reelected Chairmen, 2 were from Katsina Central Senatorial District, they include Charanchi and Kaita, 2 from Katsina South ( Danja and Matazu LGAs) while Katsina North retained 8 that include Bindawa, Daura Dutsi, eMai’adua, Mani, Mashi, Sandamu and Zango LGAs.
Already the Transition and Handing over Committee of the current local government administration whose tenure was scheduled to expire on the 13th April 2025 to newly elected local councils administration set to be sworn-in on Monday the 14th of April, 2025 for the next three years.
This development came at a time when local government administration in the country regained its autonomy. This also motivated Governor Radda to come up with the establishment of Local Government Inspectorate to be administered by a Special Adviser to ensure judicious monitoring and inspection of local councils activities across the state.
Recall that during the current administration of Malam Dikko Radda, local government administration in the state became robust which led to the provision of viable projects in areas of water supply, infrastructural development, upgrading of health facilities and services, road construction, education among others.
