Nigeria’s Flamingos have been saluted for lifting the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup after beating Japan 2-1 in Rabat, Morocco.

The salutation was made by Katsina State Governor, Malam Dikko Umaru Radda, saying the girls did not just win a trophy, they made history. For the first time, an African team has conquered the world at this level.

“These girls came from behind and shocked the world. They lost their first match, dusted themselves off, and kept marching until they carried the cup home. That is the Nigerian spirit — we do not give up,” Governor Radda said.

A press statement signed and issued by Ibrahim Kaula Mohammed, Chief Press Secretary to the Governor of Katsina State on 08 November, 2026 quoted the governor praising Coach Akeem Busari and his crew, as well as Awawu Bashiru and Oluebube Umejiaku, whose goals sealed the deal in the final, for a job well done.

According to the Governor, the victory will open doors for many young girls in Katsina and across Nigeria who dream of wearing the green and white.

Governor Radda wished the team a safe return home and a celebration befitting champions.
