In what looks like a final preparation to capture the notorious bandit leader, Bello Turji, who has been responsible for significant insecurity in the Northwest Nigeria, troops of the Operation Fansar Yamma of the Nigerian Army have been directed to arrest him.

The charge was given to the troops by  the minister of defence, Badaru Abubakar in Gusau when he went to receive briefings on military operations in the Northwest. The event was witnessed by the Commander, Joint Taskforce Northwest Operation Fansar Yamma, Major General Oluyinka Soyele, and Zamfara State’s Deputy Governor, Mani Mumuni.

The defence minister addressed troops at the One Brigade Headquarters in Gusau, emphasizing President Bola Tinubu’s commitment to ending insecurity in the Northwest and Nigeria.

President Tinubu has been monitoring the troops’ progress over the past few months, acknowledging some improvement but noting that challenges persist. Badaru assured the troops of the President’s readiness to provide all necessary resources to end insecurity.

He stressed, “Are you ready to finish with them? Are you ready to end it? Please get me Turji.”

Recall that Turji has been notorious for imposing levies on communities, including a recent N30m demand on Moriki town, Shinkafi Local Government Area of Zamfara State. The Federal Government has deployed additional troops to the area following the expiration of the payment deadline.

The operation aims to curb banditry and terrorism in the region, with President Tinubu pledging full support to the troops
