The Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf has denied plans to ditch his party, the New Nigeria Peoples Party to the All Progressives Congress, APC.

Gov Yusuf was responding to an invitation by the national chairman of APC Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje calling the governor  to join the APC.

On Thursday, January 25, wooed Yusuf and his godfather Rabi’u Musa Kwankwaso as well as Ibrahim Shekarau of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), asking them to join AP in the interest of Nigerians and the country.

In a statement by his media director, Sanusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, “Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf does not have plans to leave his party and will not leave the party. Changing a political party is like changing a house. You just cannot wake up, pack your bags, and say I have left my party. There are things to be done before you decide to change your house.” the statement partly reads.

Earlier, the former Kano governor Ganduje said he is willing to work with the 2023 presidential candidate of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNP), Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso.

Ganduje made this known while speaking during an interview with BBC Hausa on Friday.

The former governor of Kano State revealed that invitations have been sent to both Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf and the NNPP’s national leader, Kwankwaso, Daily Trust reports.

He expressed confidence in his alliance with Kwankwaso despite their long-standing political rivalry.

He said: “Certainly, we share roots and lineage. A division occurred, and now (there is) a potential for reunification through divine intervention. what could be better?”

Ganduje said that so far no official letters had been sent to Kwankwaso, stressing that he wanted the NNPP chieftain and his camp to show interest in joining APC before the letters.

“We are calling them genuinely from our heart,” he added.
