Kano Govt caves in: Agrees to pay N3billion to Shop Owners

The Kano State Government has has finally caved in and agrees to pay N3bn as compensation to the Incorporated Trustees of Masallacin Eid Shop Owners and Traders Association.

 The Daily Trust reports that the agreement was reached through an application on terms of settlement filed by the counsel of the State parties before Justice Inyang Ekwo of the Federal High Court in Abuja.

The demolition of the shops was ordered by Governor Abba Yusuf, and as a result, 56 applicants, on behalf of the association, filed a suit against the Kano State Urban Planning and Development Authority (KNUPDA), the state Attorney General, the police, Kano State Commissioner of Police, and the state government, among others.

In response to the state government’s refusal to obey the court order, the traders filed an ex parte motion marked FHC/ABJ/CS/1382/2023 before Justice Ekwo, seeking a Garnishee Order Nisi attaching the funds (present and future) of the state government, KNUPDA, and the Attorney General, including but limited to Kano State Federal Account Allocation Committee (FAAC) Account
