DG APC PCC tasks committee chairmen to submit work plan in 72 hrs

The Director-General of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Presidential Campaign Council (PCC), Senator Abdul’aziz Yari, has issued a 72-hour deadline to heads of campaign committees to submit detailed work plans, intensifying pressure on the ruling party’s machinery as it prepares for the 2027 presidential election.

Sen. Yari gave the directive on Tuesday in Abuja during the inaugural meeting of the PCC executive committee, warning that the responsibility entrusted to members by President Bola Tinubu must be matched by concrete action, coordinated mobilisation and measurable results.

The directive requires committee heads and secretaries to consult their teams, identify their operational priorities and submit proposals outlining how they intend to execute their assignments.

The Council’s leadership will review the submissions before communicating its decisions and the support available for implementation.

With just three days allowed for the exercise, DG PCC made clear that the campaign council could not afford a slow start, insisting that members must immediately move from planning discussions to execution.

“The engine room is here,” the DG PCC told members, emphasising the importance of the committees in translating the party’s political objectives into an organised campaign operation.

The deadline places the council’s leadership and its various directorates under an early test of coordination, preparedness and accountability as the APC seeks another presidential mandate for Tinubu.

Sen. Yari directed the heads of the various committees and their secretaries to return to their respective teams, convene meetings and develop practical work plans for their areas of responsibility.

He said the PCC secretariat would receive the submissions, which would then be examined by a committee before being forwarded to the appropriate leadership for consideration.

The process, he explained, was designed to ensure that campaign officials received timely feedback and the necessary support to carry out their assignments.

The 72-hour timeline establishes an immediate deliverable for the council, shifting the focus from the composition of its leadership to the operational readiness of the teams expected to drive the campaign.

Although Sen. Yari did not disclose specific performance indicators or funding allocations in the address, his directive underscored the need for each committee to define its priorities and demonstrate how it intends to contribute to the overall campaign.

The effectiveness of the exercise will depend on whether the submissions translate into workable strategies, clearly assigned responsibilities and sustained implementation.

Beyond the deadline, the DG PCC framed the assignment as a responsibility that members must justify through performance.

He said Tinubu had selected individuals from different backgrounds because of the confidence placed in their ability to contribute to the re-election project.

“This responsibility given to us by Mr President is on trust, and we have to do our best to ensure that this trust is demonstrated,” Yari said.

He urged members to recognise that their appointments carried obligations beyond political recognition, insisting that each official had a duty to contribute meaningfully to the campaign.

The message places personal responsibility at the centre of the council’s work, with committee heads expected to show how their teams will support the broader electoral objective.

For a campaign organisation comprising senior political figures and officials across different areas of responsibility, the challenge will be to align individual efforts under a coherent national strategy.

The APC would return to celebrate Tinubu’s re-election, referring in his remarks to January 16, 2027, as the date around which he envisaged the party’s victory.

The date is also identified in public statements by the campaign council as the scheduled presidential election date.

The DG PCC nevertheless acknowledged that the anticipated outcome would depend on the collective efforts of the campaign leadership and its members, rather than confidence alone.

He urged officials to return to their respective locations immediately after the meeting, engage their teams and begin preparing the required submissions.

The Council’s leadership, he said, would examine the proposals and determine the support needed to enable the committees to fulfil their responsibilities.

Sen. Yari’s remarks signal a push to establish discipline and urgency within the campaign structure at an early stage of the electoral process.

The inaugural Executive Committee meeting comes as the APC builds its campaign structure around Tinubu’s bid for a second term.

The president chairs the council, while Yari serves as director-general and Imo State Governor Hope Uzodimma as secretary.

Sen. Yari’s directive is aimed at ensuring that the Council’s different units move in the same direction, with proposals reviewed centrally before implementation.

However, the three-day deadline is only the first step.

The larger challenge will be converting the plans into coordinated outreach, effective political engagement and a campaign capable of responding to the concerns of voters across the country.

For the DG PCC, the immediate assignment is unambiguous: committee heads must produce their plans within 72 hours and prepare to act on the council’s feedback.

The APC has set its campaign clock ticking.

The next measure of progress will be whether its political structure can turn the deadline into a disciplined operation capable of delivering the party’s 2027 objective.
