Some US sailors were injured and two  operations aboard the USS Dwight D. Eisenhower off the Virginia coast on Monday, September 28, 2026,  the Times of India (TOI) has reported.

It happened at about 6:18 p.m. Eastern Daylight Time while the US Navy carrier was conducting flight operations. The two aviators assigned to Carrier Air Wing 3 ejected safely and were recovered by search-and-rescue personnel before being taken back to the ship for medical evaluation.

The Navy said four other sailors sustained injuries during the incident. One sailor was transported to a hospital in the Norfolk area for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries, while the remaining three were treated aboard the carrier.

The service has not disclosed the aircraft involved or the cause of the accident. Possible aircraft operated from US carriers include the F/A-18F Super Hornet, EA-18G Growler and T-45 Goshawk trainer.

The USS Dwight D. Eisenhower had returned to operations after completing repairs in July and was conducting early carrier qualification activities when the incident occurred.

The accident came a day after reports emerged that eight US Marines had been injured in an Iranian attack. NBC News reported that the Marines were wounded in a previously undisclosed missile strike on a maritime vessel in the Strait of Hormuz on September 14. The Marines were not aboard a US Navy ship at the time of that attack.
