Over 600 senior academics from public universities in Northern Nigeria endorse President Tinubu for the 2027 election based on an assessment of available data on his administration’s performance.
This was disclosed by the Vice-Chancellor of Kaduna State University, Professor Abdullahi Musasaying the academics examined developments across several sectors, including education, infrastructure, agriculture and investment, before arriving at their recommendation.
Prof Musa, while speaking on Trust TV’s Daily Politics on Tuesday said the gathering was not organised simply to endorse the president, but it provided an opportunity for academics to study relevant data, analyse the information using systematic methods and make recommendations based on their findings.
He said participants were presented with data covering different areas of the economy and public development, particularly education, infrastructure, investment and agriculture.
According to Musa, the Federal Government’s interventions in the education sector were among the issues considered.
He claimed that the Tinubu administration had committed billions of naira to education, adding that students of Kaduna State University alone had benefited from more than N1 billion in support.
The vice-chancellor also highlighted infrastructural assistance received by the university, noting that the institution had benefited significantly from interventions by the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund) and the National Sports Commission.
The endorsement has, however, generated controversy, with the African Democratic Congress (ADC) urging the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) not to appoint the academics as returning officers for the 2027 elections.
Responding to whether the 600 academics represented the wider body of university lecturers in the North, Musa maintained that individual academics remained free to hold different opinions.
He stressed that the participating lecturers had expressed their views both individually and collectively, while those who disagreed with the endorsement were equally entitled to their positions.
