Kwankwaso warns state governors

The  vice-presidential candidate of the National Democratic Congress, NDC, Sen Rabi’u Musa Kwankwaso said governors who believe they can prevent the party from visiting their states during campaign activities may be making a mistake that could affect their political ambitions in the forthcoming election.

Kwankwaso explained that governors had previously allowed political parties and their supporters to move freely across their states during the last election campaign, noting that restricting political activities now could work against the interests of those seeking to secure victory at the polls and build wider support among voters.

He said the decision by some governors to prevent political campaign activities in their states could be counterproductive because political parties need access to different communities to present their programmes and engage with voters, adding that those who believe they can stop the movement may be underestimating the importance of open political participation.

In Kwankwaso’s words: “Those who think, especially the governors, that they can stop us from going to their states, I think they are making a big mistake. When we were campaigning for them in the last election, the governors then allowed people to go around, and in fact, what they are doing now is counterproductive to what they want to do; they want to win the election.”
