In its efforts to improve road infrastructure and boost socioeconomic activities through out Katsina State, a ₦5.4 billion construction and dualization of the 3-kilometre Mashi has been flagged off by Governor Dikko Umaru Radda.
The Governor performed the groundbreaking ceremony on Tuesday in Mashi, stating that the project forms part of his administration’s Urban Renewal Programme under the Building Your Future Agenda.
He explained that the project, which will be executed by Mothercat Nigeria Limited under the supervision of the Katsina State Ministry of Works, Housing and Transport, is designed to provide modern infrastructure that supports sustainable development and improves the quality of life of the people.
“This is not merely the commencement of another road project. It is the beginning of a strategic investment in the economic future of Mashi Local Government Area and Katsina State,” the Governor stated.
Governor Radda noted that Mashi hosts one of the largest commercial markets in Katsina State, attracting thousands of traders, farmers, transporters, and buyers from within and outside the state.
“The construction and dualization of this road will ease traffic congestion, improve access to the market, reduce travel time, lower transportation costs, enhance road safety, and create a more conducive environment for businesses to thrive,” he said.
The Governor explained that the project will also strengthen agricultural value chains, attract private investment, create employment opportunities, and expand economic activities along the strategic Katsina–Daura corridor.
“This project is not just about constructing a road. It is about strengthening commerce, supporting agriculture, creating jobs, encouraging investment, and improving the quality of life of our people,” he added.
Governor Radda said the Mashi Township Road is one of several strategic infrastructure projects being implemented across the state under the Urban Renewal Programme to provide modern roads, efficient drainage systems, solar-powered street lighting, and other critical public infrastructure.
“Since assuming office, our administration has remained steadfast in prioritising infrastructure because quality infrastructure remains the foundation of economic prosperity,” he noted.
The Governor reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to ensuring that all the 34 Local Government Areas benefit from impactful development projects, irrespective of their location.
“We are determined to ensure that every Local Government Area benefits from meaningful development. Every project we execute is carefully selected based on its potential to improve the lives of our citizens and contribute to the long-term prosperity of our state,” he said.
Governor Radda commended the Ministry of Works, Housing and Transport for its commitment to quality project delivery and urged Mothercat Nigeria Limited to execute the project in accordance with approved engineering specifications and complete it within the agreed timeframe.
He also appealed to the people of Mashi to cooperate fully with the contractor throughout the construction period, assuring them that the long-term economic and social benefits of the project would far outweigh any temporary inconvenience.
Earlier, Commissioner for Works, Housing and Transport, Engr. Sani Magaji Ingawa, described the ₦5.4 billion Mashi Township Road Dualization Project as another major milestone under Governor Radda’s Building Your Future Agenda, saying it reflects the administration’s commitment to delivering strategic infrastructure that stimulates economic growth and improves the welfare of citizens.
He disclosed that the project includes the dualization of a 3-kilometre township road with solar-powered streetlights, reinforced drainage systems, pedestrian walkways, road markings, and other modern traffic safety features built to approved engineering standards.
According to the Commissioner, Mashi is one of Katsina State’s busiest commercial centres, and the project will ease traffic congestion, improve access to markets, reduce travel time, enhance road safety, and boost trade, agriculture, and investment.
Also Speaking, Representing the Managing Director of Mothercat Nigeria Limited, Engr. Abdulrashid Rabiu assured the Governor that the company would deliver the ₦5.4 billion Mashi Township Road Dualization Project within the stipulated timeframe and in full compliance with approved engineering specifications and quality standards.
He pledged that Mothercat Nigeria Limited would deliver a durable, high-quality road that will stand the test of time while appreciating the cooperation of the people of Mashi and security agencies towards the successful execution of the project.
On his part, Member representing Mashi/Dutsi Federal Constituency, Hon. Salisu Yusuf Majigiri, described the flag-off of the Mashi Township Road Dualization Project as a historic day for the people of Mashi.
He commended Governor Dikko Umaru Radda for initiating the project and other strategic road interventions, including the Shargalle–Ingawa Road, noting that Mashi’s position as a border town with a railway station makes the project strategically significant for trade and economic activities.
He assured the Governor of the continued support and cooperation of the people of the area.
In the same vein, Chairman of Mashi Local Government, Hon. Salisu Kallah Dankada, praised Governor Radda for extending numerous development projects to the area, including the KSTA Motor Park Terminal, agricultural support programmes, and investments in education through the construction and rehabilitation of classrooms.
District Head of Mashi, Alhaji Kabiru Ibrahim Aminu, Iyan Katsina, who represented the Katsina and Daura Emirates, expressed appreciation to Governor Dikko Umaru Radda for bringing the landmark road project to Mashi, describing it as a major intervention that will transform the community and stimulate economic growth.
The ceremony was attended by the Speaker of the Katsina State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Nasir Yahaya Daura; the Grand Khadi of Katsina State, Prof. Muhammad Kabir Abubakar; the Secretary to the State Government, Barr. Abdullahi Garba Faskari; the Chief of Staff to the Governor, Hon. Abdulkadir Mamman Nasir; members of the State Executive Council, lawmakers, traditional rulers, local government chairmen, party leaders, and other government officials and stakeholders.
