The Kano State Commissioner for Information and Internal Affairs, Comrade Ibrahim Abdullahi Waiya, has described online journalists as the symbol of modern journalism, stressing their growing influence in shaping public opinion and strengthening democratic engagement in the digital age.
Waiya made this declaration while declaring open a two-day retreat on strengthening digital journalism through ethical practice and responsive online engagement, organized for members of the Kano Online Media Chapel of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Kano State Council, under the auspices of the Ministry of Information and Internal Affairs.
He em
phasized the need for online media practitioners to uphold professionalism, accuracy, and ethical standards in their reportage, noting that the speed of digital platforms must be balanced with responsibility, credibility, and public interest journalism.
The Commissioner eulogized Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf for graciously sponsoring the retreat, describing the gesture as a clear demonstration of the administration’s commitment to capacity building, media development, and effective communication between government and the people of Kano State.
