The Katsina State Ministry for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs has commenced supervision exercise on 2026 Local Government Budget formation across the 34 LGAs of the state.
A Committee has been assigned for each of the three Senatorial Districts of the state to supervise the Preparations and formation of the budgetary allocations of each Local Government across the state.
Commissioner of the MLGCA Hon. Bishir Tanimu supervises the exercise in 12 LGAs of Katsina North, Special Adviser LG Inspectorate, Hon. Lawal Rufa’i Safana 11 LGAs of Katsina South, while Permanent Secretary MLGCA Alhaji Mas’udu Banye led the Supervision Committee to 11 LGAs of Katsina Central Senatorial District.
The Committee to Katsina South led by Hon. Lawal Rufa’i Safana has on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday covered Matazu, Musawa and Malumfashi LGAs respectively.
This indicated that so far three LGAs in each of the three Senatorial Districts totalling nine LGAs have been covered within the three days of the commencement of the exercise.
In his address at the mini conference Hall of Musawa LGA, Hon Lawal Rufai Safana said the new strategy adopted by the Ministry in its budget supervisory role was meant to ensure that all local govt staff and political office holders are abreast of the annual budget of their local govt councils right from preparatory stage.
This according to him will ensure their role in accounting during execution of the budget when approved will be smooth and easy.
He emphasised that the strategy is participatory and therefore a good learning process for all stakeholders and
pointed out that the aim was to make staff prepare and process the budget allocations for their LGAs.
This according to him, will opportune the Local Government Councils to provide acceptable Budget allocations for the development of the area.
In a remark, the Chairman of the Local Council Hon. Idris Aliyu Gingin expressed appreciation to the Department of Local Government Inspectorate for the initiative, describing it as unique.
Hon. Gingin also applauded the foresight of the State Governor Malam Dikko Umaru Radda for making the local government system autonomous.
In a vote of thanks, the Director Administration and Finance of the LGA Alhaji Salisu Dangamau registered his satisfaction, emphasing the educative nature of the initiative.
