The Katsina State Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs Hon. Bishir Tanimu Gambo has emphasised the need for the newly established Department of Local Government Inspectorate to overcome the critical challenges facing local government administration in the state.
He made the emphasis on Tuesday while receiving Alhaji Lawal Rufa’i Safana on his assumption of office as the Special Adviser on Local Government Inspectorate recently established by the State Government.
The Commissioner said the establishment of the Local Government Inspectorate was a good initiative towards addressing various challenges facing local government administration in the state.
While applauding the efforts Governor Dikko Radda in playing a vital role towards reviving the image of local government system in the state, Hon. Bishir Tanimu also expressed optimism that the appointment of Alhaji Lawal Rufa’i Safana who is versatile in local government administration as the Special Adviser to the Directorate will ensure the restoration of the local government system.
On his part, the Special Adviser on Local Government Inspectorate Alhaji Lawal Rufa’i Safana pointed out that the Ministry for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Local Government Service Commission, the Department of Local Government Inspectorate and the Local Government Audit must work hand in hand to ensure sanitary and positive achievement for local government administration to strive in the state.
He however urged the Commissioner to urgently organize a meeting with LGSC, and other two relevant Departments to discuss on the importance of the mission.
Alhaji Lawal Rufa’i also emphasised the need for Local Councils Chairmen, Councillors and all other staff to ensure reporting to their appropriate offices, this according to him will make the job easier as decision making will be taken there and then
The Special Adviser observed lopsidedness within the staff of the local government, adding that such problem will amicably be addressed by ensuring job in the training.
He therefore warned Local Government Resident Inspectors to be agile in the course of their duty, claiming to utilize the reports of the Local Government Community Development Committees (CDC) beside the reports of Resident Inspectors in weighing the performance of each LGA.
He therefore pledged to compile and present to the State Governor quarterly report on the performance of LGAs across the state.
