Senator Muhammad Adamu Alieru, represents Kebbi Central under the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP)
His return to the PDP was signified by hundreds of his supporters led by his younger brother, Alhaji Abba Aliero, who described the senator as the ‘Doyen of Politics in Kebbi’, at a consultative meeting with Governor Nasir Idris, at the Government House, Wednesday evening.
Alhaji Abba Alieru, who spoke to newsmen after the meeting said they were invited for a tete-a-tete, adding that the public would be informed later on whatever decision reached.
“We, the supporters of Senator Alieru were summoned to friendly discussions with His Excellency, the Governor, which we obliged”,
“We sought for time to return to our constituencies for further consultations with grassroots supporters upon which we shall decide the best course of action”, Abba said.
Although Senator Alieru did not attend the meeting, his close associates, participated in the discussions, including the PDP deputy gubernatorial candidate in the 2023 elections, Hon. Sama’ila Bui.
Others were former Commissioner for Education, Alhaji Muhammadu Magawata Alieru and former Chairman of Dandi Local Government Council, Hon. Abubakar Salihu Dila Kamba.
Political pundits who spoke to our correspondent said “Governor Nasir Idris has become the ‘Father of Political Unity’ of Kebbi while Sen. Alieru remains the ‘Master Card’ of politics in the state”.
At a public event recently in Birnin Kebbi, Alieru told the gathering that politics was now over, showering encomiums on Governor Idris for his remarkable performance in governance and rapid development of Kebbi within a short space of time.
In the 2023 senatorial elections, Senator Alieru contested under the PDP and defeated the then incumbent Governor Atiku Bagudu of the APC.
Prior to the polls, Alieru defected from the APC to the PDP to vie for Kebbi Central senatorial district which he won
