The Governing Council of the University of Abuja, chaired by Air Vice-Marshal Saddiq Ismaila Kaita (Rtd), has approved Prof Aishat Sani Maikudi the substantive Vice Chancellor of the University of Abuja
The decision was made during the 77th Extraordinary Meeting of the Council. Her appointment takes effect on January 1, 2025, and she will serve a non-renewable five-year tenure.
Maikudi emerged as the top candidate among 10 shortlisted individuals who were interviewed by the Joint Council and Senate Selection Board. Prior to her confirmation, she served as the Acting Vice-Chancellor of the institution. Notably, Maikudi has broken several barriers throughout her career, becoming the first female Head of Department, Deputy Dean of the Faculty of Law, and Director of the University of Abuja International Centre.
Her appointment comes after a group of 67 professors submitted a protest letter to the Minister of Education, Dr. Tunji Alausa, regarding allegations against the selection process. Despite this, Maikudi’s exceptional leadership and commitment have earned her the position, and she is expected to bring significant progress and transformation to the University of Abuja
