The Kaduna State Bureau of Interfaith, in collaboration with International Alert, is set to host a crucial regional conference to address the pressing issue of climate change-induced conflicts in Northern Nigeria.
The event is scheduled for November 4th to 6th, 2024 and mark the maiden meeting of Northern Nigerian Heads of Religious Agencies. It is a testament to the inclusion mantra of His Excellency Governor Uba Sani and the first of its kind in the country.
His Eminence, the Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar, CAN National President, His Eminence Most Reverend Dr. D. C Okoh, religious and civil society organizations are expected to attend the conference.
A statement signed and issued by Barrister Tahir Umar Tahir, Director General Bureau of Interfaith said the conference aims to bring together key stakeholders from 19 Northern States, including government officials, traditional and religious leaders, academics, civil society organizations, and international experts, to discuss and develop strategies to mitigate the impact of climate change on peace and security in the region.Key Topics of Discussion: Climate Security and the Future of Peace in Northern Nigeria to be resented by Professor Bulus A. Sawa. Government, Traditional and Religious Leadership, Promotion of Peace and Prevention of Violent Extremism to be presented by Professor Auwal Faruq Abdussalam. An Inclusive and Operational Government Religious Agency: Panacea to Peaceful Community to be presented by Dr. Ado Ibrahim Kurawa. Securing the Future: Making Schools Safe for Children through Adopting Education in Emergency (EiE) Approaches The conference aims to foster dialogue, share knowledge, and develop actionable strategies to address the multifaceted challenges posed by climate change-induced conflicts.
By engaging with religious leaders and government agencies, the conference will explore innovative approaches to promoting peace, preventing violent extremism, and ensuring the safety and well-being of communities.
A Communiqué will be issued at the conclusion of the conference, outlining key recommendations and action points to mitigate the impact of climate change and foster sustainable peace in the region.
