The Acting Governor of Katsina State, Malam Farouk Lawal (Sarkin Fulanin Jobe), has inaugurated an ad-hoc committee on July 29, 2024, to oversee the distribution of rice allocated to the state by the Federal Government.
The committee will be headed by the Secretary to the Government of the state, Barrister Abdullahi Garba Faskari. while Members of the committee include:
– SA Public Service Administration Reform
– Honorable Commissioner for Special Duties
– Honorable Commissioner of Information and Culture
– Representative of the State House of Assembly
– Managing Director, State Irrigation Authority
– Executive Chairman, Zakkat and Waqab Board
– Commander, Hisbah Board
– Chairman, ALGON
– Representative of the Police Command
– Representative of the DSS State Command
– Representatives of Katsina and Daura Emirates Councils
– Representative of Izala and Darika sects
– Representative of the Youth Council of Nigeria
– Representative of the Nigeria Youths Congress
– Representative of Civil Society Organizations, Dr. Bashir Ruwana Godiya
A statement signed and issued by the Katrina State Commissioner of Information and Culture, Dr Salisbury Bala Zango said the terms of reference for the committee are:
– To ascertain and confirm the number of bags of rice received from the Federal Government
– To develop a procedure for sharing the rice across the 34 local government areas
– To submit a report within three weeks
– To ensure that the distribution of palliatives is done in a fair and transparent manner, targeting vulnerable individuals such as widows, divorcees, aged men, and women
The Acting Governor disclosed that Katsina State has received 20 trucks of rice from the Federal Government and that the state government has provided logistics to distribute the rice to various LGAs.
