The Department of State Services (DSS) was reported to have issued a warning against the planned nationwide protest and claimed to have identified the protest’s sponsors and cautioned them against proceeding, citing concerns for the country’s stability.
In a statement signed by Dr. Peter Afunanya, Director of Public Relations and Strategic Communications, the DSS expressed fears that the protest could be hijacked by hoodlums to incite chaos and violence. The agency alleged that the protest’s true aim is to destabilize the federal government and push for regime change.
“While peaceful protest is a democratic right, the DSS has discovered plans to infiltrate the protest and incite violence. The intent is to undermine the government and create unrest, with a long-term goal of regime change.”
The DSS has identified the protest’s financial backers and sponsors but prefers non-violent measures to address the situation. It urged protestors to avoid violence, emphasizing engagement with authorities and peaceful resolution.
The agency called on various societal leaders and groups to reject participation in any orchestrated violence and to promote a peaceful nation. The DSS will collaborate with other security agencies to maintain order and apply necessary measures to prevent disruptions
