Kebbi state government through the Ministry of Humanitarian And Empowerment Affairs will collaborate with United Nations Population Funds (UNFPA) to tackle poverty in the society
Already, a country representative of the UNFPA, Mr Chris Macurley together with his team were in Kebbi State for a 3-day working visit in order to meet with the official of Humanitarian Ministry to see how best the organisation can intervene in the areas of poverty and other social aspects in the society.
At a stakeholders meeting held at Azbir Conference Hall in Birnin Kebbi metropolis which was chaired by the Hon Commissioner, Kebbi State ministry of Humanitarian and Empowerment Affairs, Alhaji Muhammadu Hamidu Jarkuka was attended by the United Nations Population Funds (UNFPA) led by its Country Representative, Mr Chris Macurley and other stakeholders.
The UNFPA Country Representative, Mr Chris Macurly told stakeholders in the meeting that they are in Kebbi State between 15th to 17th, July 2024 in order to collaborate with the Humanitarian Ministry and other stakeholders with a view to identified areas of needs, challenges for possible intervention to offer in the state.
According to the schedule of their activity, the team has paid a courtesy visit to Emir of Gwandu, Muhammad Iliyasu Bashar at his palace in Birnin Kebbi Monday. On Tuesday 16th July the team would proceed to Yauri and Zuru emirates and some communities communities in the two emirates for the possible intervention to them.
The stakeholders will Wednesday 17th July visit Sexual Abuse and Rehabilitation centre (SARC) Birnin Kebbi as a move to rap-up the meeting.
Earlier, the Permanent Secretary of the Humanitarian Affairs Ministry, Yahaya Riskuwa who welcomed the official of UNFPA on behalf of the Hon. Commissioner of the Ministry, Alhaji Muhammadu Hamidu Jarkuka had informed the gathering of the Kauran Gwandu led administration intention to collaborate with any NGO or individual in bringing development to the state.
He described the visit by the UNFPA officials to Kebbi State as timely which at the end of their meeting with officials of Humanitarian Ministry will yield a positive result.
Four important NGO’s which include; Almajiri Support Initiatives of Nigeria, Kebbi State branch, Coalition of CSO, Kebbi State, Mindset Community Development Initiatives, Kebbi State chapter and Sami Gomo Foundation were in attendance during the meeting.
