Some hoodlums in large numbers and suspected to be sponsored by some smugglers, have attacked Customs Outstation In Yauri under Yauri Local Government Area of Kebbi State and vandalised a vehicle and other facilities belonging to the Outstation.
The incident happened when the customs officials intercepted a consignment of per boiled imported rice at Yauri Waterside which eventually lea to the confiscation of the consignment and taken to the customs outstation..
Afterwards, a mob attack was launched by the aggrieved smugglers by way of hiring the hoodlums to attack the outpost.
During the fracas the OiC sustained an injury; one AK47 rifle was carted away ; and 29 out of 41 bags of the seized rice were taken away by the attackers.
The hoodlums also vandalised the OiC personal vehicle, the outstation ACs, chairs, tables, windows, doors, and other essentials facilities belonging to the outstation.
Kebbi State Governor, Nasir Idris who visited the scene of the incident solicitated for calm and normalcy has since been restored.
The state Customs Area Controller, Iheanacho Ernest Ojike condemned the attack and indicated that some arrests have been made and an investigation was launched to arrest and prosecute the criminals.
