The Federal Government of Nigeria has commenced the renovation work on Dodan Barracksb the historic former seat of power, with plans to conclude the works by May 29, 2024.
The renovation works is being carried out in response to the pressing need to address the structural deterioration and perennial flooding threatening the facility, as disclosed by senior government officials intimately involved in the project.
President Bola Tinubu’s proposal of N4 billion for the renovation of the official residence in Lagos, alongside an additional N3 billion earmarked for the refurbishment of the Vice President’s official quarters in the same state, set the stage for this crucial undertaking.
The Federal Executive Council had greenlit these allocations as part of a N2.18 trillion supplementary budget for the 2023 fiscal year, aimed at bolstering various sectors, including defense, infrastructure, and welfare initiatives.
Speaking on condition of anonymity, a senior government official affirmed, “Yes, renovation works have begun as approved by the budget. The rehabilitation was necessary because of the sorry state of the structure.
“Last rainy season, a major part of the building was almost taken away by floods. So we have to protect it from erosion and floods.
“We will also repair broken items, renew the furniture and make it a functioning State House Liaison Office
