Riots broke out in Rigachikun, a community in Igabi Local Government of Kaduna Stat on Sunday over the killing of the community member, Mansur Shafiuover the re run election on Saturday.
The rioters blocked the Kaduna – Zaria road condemning the killing but the protest was eventually stopped by military intervention.
Mansur lost his life during the ballot counting on Saturday, with the PDP leading in Box 06 of the Women Center ward of Rigachikun.
Eye witness that a group of thugs, accompanied by security personnel, seized the ballot box in a Hilux van and fled with the INEC officials.
After the thugs left, Yusuf Ibrahim Zailani, former Speaker of the Kaduna State House of Assembly a rrived with the police. This led the crowd to begin chanting “Karya ne, ba ma yi” (It’s a lie; we are not doing).
The police accompanying the former Speaker then fired shots into the air, resulting in the tragic incident where Mansur Shafiu, who had a shop nearby, was hit by a stray bullet.Mansur was taken to the hospital but died around 10:00 p.m. on Saturday.
The Kaduna State Police Public Relations Officer, Mansir Hassan, confirmed the incident, and the Commissioner of Police, Ali Dabigi, has ordered a thorough investigation to catch the culprits.
Meanwhile, Hon. Hussaini Muhammad Jallo, the victorious member of the House of Representatives for the Igabi Federal Constituency, dedicated his win to God and the late Mansur Shafiu.
