The official taking over was  announced by Prof Benjamin Kumai Gungong, the Kaduna State commissioner of sports development on Wednesday.

This was contained in a statement signed by the commissioner, saying the “Ahmadu Bello Stadium was officially handed over to Kaduna State on January 27, 2023, during the past administration to whom we remain grateful. Today marks a strategic shift towards a new era of sporting prominence for our state.

” This demonstrates our commitment to fostering a vibrant sports culture, enriching the lives of our citizens, and positioning Kaduna as a premier destination for national and international sports events.

“What we are witnessing here today is the physical takeover of Ahmadu Bello Stadium which marks a new era of sporting prominence for our state. This goes further to demonstrate a commitment to fostering a vibrant sports culture, enriching the lives of our citizens, and positioning Kaduna as a premier destination for national and international sports events.

 “I am pleased to announce that we are here today not only symbolically but physically taking over the Ahmadu Bello Stadium as custodians and managers in line with the Memorandum of Understanding and the state’s determination toward the upgrade and enhancement of this iconic sporting facility.

“In a demonstration of unwavering dedication to sports development, I am delighted to announce that the present administration, led by Governor Uba Sani, has not only taken custody of the Ahmadu Bello Stadium but has also approved its upgrade in the 2024 budget. This forward-thinking investment underscores our resolve to provide world-class facilities that will define Kaduna’s role in sports development.

“Given this current development, it is very necessary to inform the general public, stakeholders, and sports lovers that the Ministry of Sports Development will take all necessary steps required to restore decency at the facility including adequate and better security, the proper protocol of access, and general administration to enhance efficiency in the use of this sports edifice.

” In closing, I wish to express gratitude to all sports associations and other stakeholders who have played a pivotal role in this transformative journey. As we envision the future, let the Ahmadu Bello Stadium stand not only as a sports facility but as a testament to Kaduna’s commitment to holistic human capital development, the commissioner said.

The ceremony was lead by a committee set up by the Kaduna State governor andd was conducted at the Ahmadu Bello Stadium.

The Ahmadu Bello Stadium is a multi-purpose stadium in Kaduna City, Kaduna State, Nigeria. It was designed in 1965 by the English architects Jane Drew and Maxwell Fry. As of 2016, it is used mostly for football matches. The stadium has a capacity of 16,000 people.

It was built by the government of Northern region comprising the 19 states and Abuja. the Federal Capital Territory.
