Kaduna constructs 10, 000 houses

The Government of  Kaduna state has pledged to construct 10,000 affordable housing units in the next four years.

This was disclosed by Rabiu Yunusa, permanent secretary at the Kaduna State Ministry of Housing and Urban Development, Monday at a meeting of the National Council of Lands, Housing and Urban Development in Kaduna, pointing out that the housing deficit in Nigeria is so high that the Kaduna government is determined to address the situation.

He said Uba Sani, governor of Kaduna, is working on a programme to construct the houses across the 23 LGAs of the state adding that the state had already attracted a Qatari charity organisation to provide 500 housing units for vulnerable people.

“We have so much housing deficit not only in Kaduna state. I don’t think in the last four years there is any state that built mass houses,” Yunusa said.

“Governor Uba is going to build 10,000 mass housing in the next four years.

“The challenges in the housing sector are not only peculiar to Kaduna state, it is something that affects every state even the federal government.

“But luckily in Kaduna, the 7-point agenda of the governor includes the closing of the gaps in the housing sector.

“He is so passionate about addressing the challenges and he has directed us to come up with modalities. We have many things in the pipeline towards achieving set goals.”

He assured that the state government would close the gap in the housing sector in Kaduna state by 60 or 70 percent in the next four years.

“If you are following the activities of the governor, you will know that he is concerned about the less privileged in the society and is determined to improve their well-being,” he said.
