As the United States commemorates today, the 9/11 terror attack, the chairman of Russia’s security council and an ally of Russian President Vladimir Putin, Dmitry Medvedev, has alleged that the United States might face new Sept. 11-style attacks, however with new techniques.
Today marks 22-years of the deadly 9/11 attacks carried out by al-Qaeda and masterminded by the famous Osama bin Laden. Dmitry Medvedev claimed that the U.S. could be facing the same destiny again, but using nuclear strikes.
Medvedev is known for being a controversial personality, served as the former Russian President from 2008 to 2012.
He made the comment a day before the anniversary of Sept. 11 in which 19 hijackers leading four planes; crashed the first two into the Twin Towers of the World Trade Center in New York City, and aimed the next two flights toward targets in or near Washington, D.C., in an attack on the nation’s capital.
Medvedev, former Russian President from 2008 to 2012, on the night marking the deadly 9/11 attack, the Russian politician took to Telegram with a sentence in red translated as “A few words ahead of 11/9.”
He maintained: “I don’t want to forebode, but they’ll see that at some point terrorists will launch another 11/09/2001-style attack, but with a nuclear or biological component.”
He added: “Or even worse: one of the leaders of nuclear countries will lose his nerve and make an emotional decision to use WMD. Especially since the nuclear club is constantly expanding and a significant part of it is not bound by any obligations.”
The new comments of Medvedev have sparked controversy online as some claimed that Russia might be planning to use nuclear weapons against the U.S. which is planning to mark the 22th anniversary of the Sept. 11 attack.
What’s new in the 9/11 attacks?
Two persons; a man and woman, were identified by the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner as the 1,648th and 1,649th victims of the 9/11 attacks, according to a news release from the mayor’s office.
The news release added that the two were identified using advanced DNA testing of their remains.
