Niger disconnects electricity, water to French embassy

As hostilities escalate between the military government in Niger Republic and French authorities, there are reports that the military government has disconnected electricity and water supply to the French embassy in Niamy, with no food deliveries allowed, multiple reports on social media said.

The country’s leadership has also taken similar action at the French consulate in Zinder, the reports said on Sunday. The president of the National Support Committee for the National Council for the Safeguarding of the Country (CNSP), Elh Issa Hassoumi Boureima, has asked all partners of French bases in Niger to suspend all water and electricity supplies and food products, said the reports.

Niger Military Junta Demands French Ambassador Leave the Country. Niger’s military rulers, who seized control of the government in July, gave the French ambassador 48 hours to leave the country.

Niger military supporters protest near French base in Niamey. The protest comes a day after Niger junta issued ultimatum for French ambassador to leave the country for reportedly ignoring an invitation for a meeting at the Foreign Ministry.
